Lindert Named 2026 U.S. PGA Cup Captain in Transatlantic Battle for Glory
Veteran PGA figure to lead America’s professionals as three-year win streak faces GB&I test
Seoul, Korea - John Lindert, the Honorary President of the PGA of America and long-serving professional at The Country Club of Lansing, has been appointed as Captain of the 2026 United States PGA Cup Team.
Lindert, a PGA member for over 35 years and 2019 inductee into the Michigan PGA Hall of Fame, will lead a ten-strong team of PGA of America Golf Professionals in the 32nd edition of the biennial match, set to be hosted by the Professional Golfers’ Association of Great Britain & Ireland.
“The PGA Cup provides the unique opportunity for PGA of America Golf Professionals to proudly represent not only our Association and 30,000 Members, but our country,” said Lindert. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and excited to see the qualification journey begin.”
That journey begins April 27 at the 2025 PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Players will earn points through to 2026 to stake their claim for selection.
First contested in 1973, the PGA Cup mirrors the Ryder Cup format with foursomes, four-balls and singles match play spread across three intense days. No prize money is awarded—only the honour of capturing the Llandudno International Trophy, which the U.S. claimed with a 17.5–8.5 victory in 2024 at Sunriver Resort.
With the U.S. eyeing a fourth consecutive triumph, and GB&I keen to regain the upper hand on home soil, Lindert’s steady leadership promises a compelling storyline in golf’s most storied team event outside the majors.
